Jason Mattera

move over sluts...there's a new ho in towne: Jason Mattera. from his speech i can plainly see, he's a jackass too. this guy is a new low, even for the repubs! can he go lower the mann coulter? is he as slutty as she (i mean he)? if he shows her his, would she show him hers (or his)? the Young America's Foundation must be a school for slut to produce a right-wing ho like Mattera.

now supposedly he's written 'a book': 'Obama Zombies: How the Liberal Machine Brainwashed My Generation'. now, i'd assert that his part of his generation (and the tea baggers) are all zombies...but brainwashed? brainwashed what? right-wing youth have never had anything to brainwash (e.g., the Hitler-Jugend)! they're just bright shiny youth on their way to war.

i heard Mattera's speech on cpsan and thought: wait a minute, i can't be hearing this...what is this...is this some kind of pep rally? well...yes it was. there was no serious content in the parts of the cpac crap that i heard. nothing but right-wing invective.

the gop has no new ideas, and so, has to stoop lower and lower to get any headlines. its too bad the american people have no other party to turn to with the dems in power because, with this one, they're going to get 'less than zero' when they return them to congressional power in the fall.

and when the gop returns to full power in 2012, it'll be the end of the world. so, bend over and kiss your Mattera goodbye!

so i say to the gop: 'is this all you got?'

Won't Get Fools Again

well...they're back. listening to the CPAC right now. the complete wall of lies makes me want to barf. but, hey, i've wanted to barf ever since reagan. listening to this cpac crap all i hear is the voice of the conservative white peoples' party (cwpp). we've heard that voice before. it is never pretty. it has destroyed countries in the past and will do so again.

i've just turned them off now. nothing new. just: america is the greatest country ever, anybody can get rich in america if they work 'hard', america fights for freedom, blah blah blah... the most cursory reading of american history put's this nonsense out to pasture (with the rest of the piles).

the important thing at this juncture is to understand that poor and lower middle class white people have been hurt, yet again, by the business men and corporations they put their faith in, and instead of choosing an alternative path, they are going to put these same people that have just ripped them a 'new one' back in control of the congress! this is inevitable because a "host of barriers, disadvantages, and strategies" make it impossible to establish a third party in the u.s. today (see http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Political_Reform/Third_Parties_America.html).

all the american public can do is go around and around from demorepubs (dems) and real repubs over and over again. what this means is that america, in providing no real alternative to corporate sponsored government, is a political failure! our 234 year history has lead to a one party state: the corporate white peoples' party!

that's it in a nutshell! no matter whether you vote repub or dem, you're voting for people backed by big corporations or people from big corporations or people who are heavily invested in big corporations. that's why the corporate deregulation policies started by reagan were continued by clinton and are now continued by obama. and that's why lower middle class white people (not to mention blacks) are permanently out of work that would have paid them a decent enough wage so that their kids could have gotten an education that would allow them to move into the middle middle class. (there isn't enough time to go into the corporate backed tax policies which have gutted the states and essentially destroyed education for all but the upper classes here.)

the one thing i can say with utter assurance is that the country of my youth is gone! this was a country where we understood that we would advance in science and technology and culture in order to push out into the solar system and establish a level of culture impossible to have with the resources of just one world. this idea is essentially dead. we can only hope we survive for a few more decades after the cwpp returns to power.

Like a child

As we watch what was once our civic discourse fall into a chaos of rabid idiocy (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/08/07/health-care-town-halls-turn-violent-tampa-st-louis/) a new ‘leader’ arises. Like other leaders who have arisen from chaos amongst the ‘folk’ (http://www.porges.net/HitlersOrigin.html) we find this one has a world view wrought from the simplistic understandings and conventional wisdoms of the most conventional people (conservatives) of their culture. Further, we find that this person has an elementary ethic that works hand in hand with an elementary understanding of the world at large, to wit: cribbing a little note won‘t bother any of my followers and will never be seen by anybody else. I give you this new ‘leader’; like a child, unschooled and simple in the ways of the world, caught cheating in full view of the world.

‘simple sarah’ wrote a note/
But where she put it let us see/
nothing more than a child/
In a woman’s body, but not the mind/
That speaks words of hurt and pain/
But only for her masters’ gain/
And what they gain, helps us not/
For those they’ve used, they have forgot!

'The Road', A Film Review

‘The Road’ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbLgszfXTAY) is a difficult film. Difficult to watch and fearful to contemplate. After my single viewing, I arrived at the conventional interpretation: an american post apocalypse. But, this is wrong. A more careful 'reading' of the film shows that the film is not so much, post apocalypse, but ‘apocalypse now’! Consider: there is no pre-apocalyptic world depicted and there is no reason given for the apocalypse that is shown and the whole world, as suggested by the father when asked by his son if there was something different on the other side of the ocean, is as it is in the story before the viewer.

The Road is now. What blinds most of us from seeing it is our cupidity. Our homeless are on The Road now. Our sick without insurance are on The Road now. Those from foreign lands who come to amerika to seek out jobs on the bottom rungs of employment are on The Road now. Our long-term unemployed will soon be on The Road.

The most striking metaphor in the film is the mansion that the father and son happen upon. That mansion is the myth of amerika. The cellar is the reality!

We are dupes of dopes. We are led by fools. The Road shows where that leadership leads. The Road also shows us what happens when we tire of that leadership and put it down like a rabid dog. The Road shows us the ending of the myth of amerikan civilization. And, to that end, The Road is a parable of justice. What a tough justice it is. But then, who said justice would be a sunny day at the beach? Unironically, The Road gives resonance to our next ‘great leader’, sarah pallin’s, remark: “We eat therefore we hunt.”

bon appétit!

On the Precipice of War

And so, we stand on the precipice yet again. It seems that no Democratic president can resist the bait of republicans to shed the blood of American citizens for some lost cause. Obama’s presidency will be effectively over with the committal of 40,000 more troops to Afghanistan because these troops will be quickly neutralized and some American general will call for more. Obama will not be able to resist the logic of ‘we’ve already sent in so many, that if we pull out now, all will be in vain’. Like Johnson, Obama will fear being the first president to lose a war to an ideology and like Johnson, he will find that ‘guns and butter’ don’t mix.

Obama may think that sending more troops to Afghanistan will placate the republicans, but it won’t. The minute anything goes wrong with McChrystal’s plan, the republicans will howl for Obama’s blood. And to stop them, he’ll send in more troops. History will write that Obama, as was Johnson, was once a chance for America to have advanced both domestically and in foreign policy; but he was no student of history and lost his country to a part of the world, well schooled in taking down civilizations, that had nothing to lose in spreading the fight all over the world.

So, with Israel and Iran also on the precipice of war, I welcome you to World War IV.

Open Letter to President Obama – Afghanistan

Dear Mr. President,

I hope this letter reaches you in some form or the other. It is extremely important that you not make the major mistake by which your presidency will be defined. It is extremely important that you not make the mistake Lyndon Johnson did in Vietnam.

No not escalate the war in Afghanistan. Listen to your generals and then make the correct decision. Remember, generals are always generals and will opt for war in most situations because that is how they are trained to solve problems. Generals and armies are for destroying countries and their inhabitants. They are not for nation building.

The most important thing you must remember is just one thing.

No matter how long the U.S. military stays in Afghanistan, no matter how many people we kill there (unless we kill everyone), no matter who we coerce, no matter who we ‘pay off’, no matter how clean the next elections are, no matter how good a leader of Afghanistan we put in place, no matter how many Americans are killed, no matter how much money we spend on the war; at the end of the day, we will leave Afghanistan (unless you plan to make it part of the U.S. somehow)! At that point the Taliban and al-Qaeda will return. Why? Because they live there! They raise their children there. And, for every father we kill, for every mother, brother, sister, and cousin we kill; some child will swear a blood oath to take us down!

The countries we are engaged in have much less to lose in an indefinite war than we do. To win, all they have to do is survive. By surviving, they will wear our economy down to third world status, for the majority of Americans. By surviving, they will become heroes to many people at the bottom of the societies in the Islamic world. By surviving, they will become dispersed throughout the Islamic world and more sophisticated in guerrilla technique. And, with access to nuclear munitions, there is no way to estimate what they will be able to do in ten or twenty or fifty years of continuous war with us.

There is only one way out of the quagmire the republicans left for you: Apologize to the Islamic world for what we have done there for the last 50 years. Pledge to help rebuild everything the Western powers have destroyed. Take a neutral approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Remove our troops back to the states which will host them. Use current technology, special-forces, and the CIA to contain al-Qaeda as best they can. This is the optimal solution: minimize casualties and economic waste and maximize good will.

Please do not let the republicans determine your foreign policy. They are extremely bad at foreign policy! Please, do not let the three wars we are engaged in (Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan) consume us. We have much to do domestically to recover from the Bush recession. We cannot afford endless war in Asia.

I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors and I hope you maintain the good will of the world, expressed in your Peace Prize.

Sincerely,
